Sara Paretsky (b. June 8, 1947 in Ames, Iowa) is contemporary American author of detective fiction. Paretsky was raised in Kansas. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a dregree in political science and then a Ph. D. in history, and finally earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. She has lived in Chicago ever since. Nevada Barr was born in the small western town of Yerington, Nevada and raised on a mountain airport in the Sierras. Both her parents were pilots and mechanics and her sister. Molly, continued the tradition by becoming a pilot for USAir. Neveda is currently working on the fourteenth in the Anna Pigeon series.
